XM

Rfv-sense: satellite radio. It is probably a real thing... but why would satellite radio be abbrv'd to XM?

It's a corporate name, w:XM Satellite Radio. Doubt it's actually used in a generic sense, but that's why it's here, if someone wants to find such usages.--Prosfilaes (talk) 12:01, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

Most of what I found was clearly referring to the trademarked XM Satellite Radio. There are a number of cites, however, where it is not clear whether the use is that specific, or whether it is genericized, such as this, this, this, this, and this. I am not sure whether these are clearly generic, however. A second opinion would be welcome. Kiwima (talk) 21:23, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

I can't see the first one, the second one says "iPods and XM radio" (not connected, but not showing a tendency to use generics), the third is unclear, the fourth says "the Zumo which offered its XM radio", and indeed the Garmin Zumo offered XM Satellite Radio(TM), and I can't see the fifth.--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:34, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

The first one says "Around the turn of the just-passed century, media trends like the rise (or return) of more eclectic local radio stations, XM radio, iPods, and Internet tools like Pandora or Genius directly tapped more fluid notions of good or hip music...", and the fifth says "His digital XM radio was gone.
