Only a few thousand Google hits, many of which are derived from Wikipedia. It could use some citation. Dominic·t 06:35, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ive definitely seen it outside Wikipedia, including on websites that are very unlikely to have borrowed the term from Wikipedia. Also, Wikipedia seems to prefer the spelling w:aptronym. One site that I contributed to that had a list of aptonyms has moved, and I can't really prove that it was older than the Wikipedia article other than the fact that I remember where I was living and I moved out in 2004.
