banker's envelope

[edit]

[Moved from User:Equinox talk page.]

Google Images suggests either a kind of manila or paper envelope (according to some books it's "one that opens along its longest side, while a pocket envelope is one that opens along its shorter side") or a kind of thin (potentially leather and squarish) coin-purse-like thing. - -sche (discuss) 18:41, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@-sche: Yeah, I did as much research as you did :) In terms of paper envelopes (for letters), I'm familiar with two main kinds: the one with a V-shaped flap that reaches halfway down the envelope (think Christmas cards), and the one with a long straight flap all the way along the top (so the second one is apparently the "banker's e~"). The leather bag thing just throws me. Perhaps it would be helpful to know the history of why bankers used these things, and for what. Equinox 09:36, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
