Talk:frindle
I contest this pseudo-entry!
[edit]Now, I personally believe that there should be an entry for this! It could be marked as a slang term in my opinion. The book Frindle is a popular book, and, this term was coined from it. The entire point of the book was a kid making up a word so to speak, and making it popular among people as a fad, if I remember correctly. After that, it becomes real. Some people will actually call a pen a "frindle". So, why shouldn't we? Should I bring in citations? LalalalaSta (talk) 23:44, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- If you can produce three citations meeting WT:CFI, I'll support you in adding it. —Mr. Granger (talk • contribs) 23:50, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, you should! Specifically: three independent, durably recorded usages without reference to the book, spanning at least a year, would satisfy Wiktionary's criteria. If you can provide that, you'll have my support too. ~ Röbin Liönheart (talk) 23:52, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
The New York Times quoted this entry
[edit]Looking for usages to cite, I discovered that a NYT book reviewer quoted the malformed entry that was here in 2007 (since deleted):
- Lua error in Module:quote at line 2972: Parameter 1 is required.
Sobering to think that embarrassingly poor entry got such wide publication. ~ Röbin Liönheart (talk) 17:32, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- Wow, that is pretty surprising, I must say! LalalalaSta (talk) 18:21, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- More reason to do it carefully this time around. ~ Röbin Liönheart (talk) 18:36, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
this is a synonym
[edit]i can see the word "frindle" as a synonym for the word "pen" as in you could use the words "pen" and "frindle" interchangeably like how some people call a "bathroom" a "washroom".
