It seems likely to me that the wording added in diff is true of all oe words and not just this one. If that's the case, the wording should be made more neutral (if people are intentionally using it, apparently while knowing what the correct form would be, is it still a "mistake"?) and then added to the template itself. (Perhaps compare how Template:de-umlautless spelling of describes a similar phenomenon in German.) - -sche (discuss) 06:32, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

- I'd say (purely my opinion) that the moves towards oe has already started (I took a picture of a bottle of wine using the spelling oenologue, and that's published material) so I don't expect it to stop. Adding œ to keyboard to me seems very unlikely. I expect it to go the same way as diacritics on capital letters i.e. more and more of it. Renard Migrant (talk) 18:04, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

- I guessed there would already have been discussion about this. Frankly, I find it amazing that the distinction between a oe and œ is treated as spelling rather than typesetting. Bizarre. But then the French language is, to my imperfect knowledge, unique in having a language police, so I'm guessing that this strange perspective is authoritative.
- My first schooling, in a government school in Geneva, was in French, and the French alphabet we were taught certainly had no letter œ. On the other hand there was no letter 'e grave' but it would be wrong to omit accents, so I have to grant there is more to it than just the alphabet. --Alkhowarizmi (talk) 09:54, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
