Polite preface to disagreement

[edit]

Possibly this should add that this phrase is often used as a polite preface to disagreement? "I see your point but" gets 71,800 G-hits; "I see the point but" gets 115,000. - Jmabel 16:51, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

The "but" is common because this phrase is used in the context of a debate; there was already disagreement. The phrase is actually an indication of yielding ground; it implies not only comprehension but also an acknowledgment that the point is valid (there are 3.9M G-hits for "yes, I see your point"). The but indicates that the point isn't the whole story, that alone it isn't a refutation. -- 98.108.196.223 01:05, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Delete both as above. Also other uses, e.g. I see your point is on the scoreboard. The other team gets your point because you broke rule 5(c). Facts707 (talk) 04:21, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
