Polite preface to disagreement

Possibly this should add that this phrase is often used as a polite preface to disagreement? "I see your point but" gets 71,800 G-hits; "I see the point but" gets 115,000. - Jmabel 16:51, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

The "but" is common because this phrase is used in the context of a debate; there was already disagreement. The phrase is actually an indication of yielding ground; it implies not only comprehension but also an acknowledgment that the point is valid (there are 3.9M G-hits for "yes, I see your point").
