- Probably the first, now obsolete sense of policy is meant, or else the (overlapping) sense 7, “statecraft”. I think the other definition, “politiek”, which also may refer to the petty politics of municipal administrations, is too loose. --Lambiam 18:00, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- I think you're right, the sense "politics" should be narrowed to national politics with a focus on governance. On the other hand, the previous definition and synonym included "political science", which is also too broad. Perhaps "policy" could be clarified as political philosophy or political theory.

On the Dutch Wikipedia Staatkunde refers to Politicologie, but that does not have to mean the term has actually been in use in that sense – although I expect there will be some snide uses, such as that you do not need a degree in hogere staatkunde to understand some policy is bad. --Lambiam 16:38, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Lambiam I'm not sure that a sense "polsci" is attestable, google books:"staatkunde" politicologie does not look promising on my end. If it can be attested it is probably rare. This term for a freshman law course seems to get closest. Then again I could easily imagine people analysing the term as meaning that because of the -kunde suffix.
