Usage

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from a digitised manuscript of the later version of Wycliffe's Bible (c. 1410, MS. Lich 10) held at the Lichfield Cathedral. If a page number is added, it will also automatically generate a link to the correct page of the manuscript.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |book= – mandatory: the name of the book of the Bible quoted from; see the table below for the full list. The name will be displayed in Middle English, but must be entered in Modern English.
• |2= or |chapter= – mandatory: the chapter of the book quoted in Arabic numerals, following the work.
• |3=, |verse=, or |verses= – mandatory: the verse(s) of the chapter quoted in Arabic numerals, following the work. If quoting a range of verses, separate the verse numbers with an en dash, like this: |verses=10–11.
• |4= or |leaf=; |5= or |side= – mandatory in some cases: respectively, the leaf number (1 through 125) and side of the leaf (r recto or v verso), which collectively make a page number to be quoted from.

If these parameters are omitted, the template will not link to the online version of the work. If only one is added, a URL will be created but it will lead to an error page.

• |leaf2=; |side2= – for quoting multiple pages; see leaf and side for details. The automatically-generated URL will only take the first page into account.
• |column= or |columns= – the column number quoted from.
• |line= or |lines= – the line number quoted from.
• |6=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage quoted from the Bible.
• |7=, |t=, or |translation= – a translation of the passage quoted into contemporary English.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
• |termlang= – by default, the template categorizes entries on which it is placed into Category:Middle English terms with quotations. To have the template categorize an entry into Category:English terms with quotations instead, use |termlang=en.
