Inspired by contributing to the Mozilla Common Voice project, I've been recording audio pronunciations for words (U.S. English; I have a Midwest accent). I am working on the backlog at Category:Requests for audio pronunciation in English entries and my own lists (based on things I've read/heard). I try and make sure upcoming words in the Word of the Day queue have recordings.

I know some Spanish and Kiswahili, and have aspirations to learn French.

Let me know if you have any feedback; I'm happy to fix or re-record any of mine (or others).

My procedure:

0. Have a glass of water or a cuppa on-hand.

1. ensure I know how to pronounce the word.
   • Dictionary.com and merriam-webster.com have audio pronunciations for many words. Searching <word> pronunciation on YouTube (or finding videos about the subject) is another option. I've even had success asking ChatGPT (though I'm always sure to verify my result elsewhere!).
2. record pronunciation in a quiet room using Lingua Libre or Audacity

If using Lingua Libre...

1. verify the recording and let the tool do its stuff!
2. Then update the Wiktionary entry with the following (paste the filename between the ||):

If using Audacity...

1. once I have a recording I like, I cut the recording & reduce background noise
2. save as .oga (since it's a free, preferred format)
3. upload via the Commons:Special:UploadWizard & copy/paste the following:
   • Caption: Audio pronunciation of the word "word" in U.S. English (Midwestern accent).
   • Category: U.S. English pronunciation

Update the Wiktionary entry with the following:
