Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Apisite (talk) 05:28, 23 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

松柏明[edit]

What is 松柏明 that you put in the pronunciation of ? RcAlex36 (talk) 10:52, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

"松柏明" is pine wood that used to burn as torch light, it's also called "松明". [1] The full pronunciation is sêng5 bêh4 mia5 in Peng'im or sêng-peh-miâ in PUJ. I found the example from dictionary of Zhang Xiaoshan (张晓山《新潮汕字典》2015年版 →ISBN) --白布飘扬 (talk) 14:18, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hakka pronunciation[edit]

You were asked not to use zdic.net as a source for adding Hakka pronunciations. In this edit, only 1 out of the 5 pronunciations added was correct. Please stop using zdic.net as a source and use more reliable sources from now on. RcAlex36 (talk) 06:05, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just to clarify, it isn't clear where the Hakka pronunciations from zdic.net come from, and it seems to us who have compared it to other more reputable sources as being unreliable. Some sources you should look into instead of using zdic.net are the MoE dictionary for Sixian and 客家音字典 for Meixian. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 06:11, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
For Taiwan Hakka, I refer to online source from NTU Hakka dictionary & Moe Dictionary by 唐鳳. And refering to 《客家話大辭典》 for Guangdong Hakka, especially for Bao'an dialect (寶安腔). --白布飘扬 (talk) 07:45, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
The Sixian sources are good. We don't have support for Bao'an Hakka, just Meixian Hakka, so I don't think we should reference that source for the |gd= parameter, which is reserved for Meixian for now. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 07:49, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
