Welcome[edit]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Ultimateria (talk) 17:29, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Audios[edit]

Thank you for uploading audio files in Romanian! Here's a tip: if you upload your files with the name File:ro-word.ogg, they will be imported automatically by a bot. Also you may be interested in Lingua Libre for recording lots of words at once. Ultimateria (talk) 17:29, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I should also mention that we don't include accent marks in links to Romanian words, even though Romanian dictionaries do. We leave that information to the pronunciation section. Ultimateria (talk) 17:45, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Can you tell me once again how to use the bot to import my files automatically? Do I do that in Wikimedia Commons? — This unsigned comment was added by Filosoful (talkcontribs).
There's a Wiktionary user whose bot regularly imports files from Commons that have the naming scheme that I showed above. Don't forget to sign your messages with ~~~~. Ultimateria (talk) 18:03, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also wondering if the infinitive marker should be included in audios. Can't seem to recall us doing it for Swedish verbs for example. @Ultimateria, how should we do? --Robbie SWE (talk) 17:56, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Robbie SWE: I would advise against including a in verb audios. Ultimateria (talk) 18:03, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Next time I will leave out the infinitive markers of verbs. Filosoful (talk) 18:05, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have 5 more verbs left and later I'll leave out the markers. Filosoful (talk) 18:06, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ok, I'm done for today. See you tomorrow. Filosoful (talk) 18:09, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please redo the recordings where you have added the marker. Also, please be careful with the IPA template - the stress is off. --Robbie SWE (talk) 18:09, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

all of them? well, maybe if you teach me how to use that bot to direct my files automatically , otherwise it will take a while, I've been here for over 3 hours. Are you sure the infinitve marker is that much of an impediment, it's like to for English verbs. Filosoful (talk) 18:14, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But we don't include to in English pronunciations. Like I said, just upload your files under the correct name, File:ro-word.ogg. You will have to modify any that you uploaded with a different naming scheme. Ultimateria (talk) 18:22, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In Commons, you'll have to go to the verb files and scroll down to "Upload a new version of this file". That shouldn't take too long. You don't have to edit the Wiktionary pages that they're on. Ultimateria (talk) 18:25, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I should also mention that {{ro-IPA}} is not ready to be used yet. It still generates lots of errors. Ultimateria (talk) 18:34, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I see I can use Lingua Libre better than Audacity, it's faster. I'll get rid of the infinitive marker. Also, I won't use the IPA anymore then. Filosoful (talk) 18:50, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Don't worry about the file names for Lingua Libre files; they'll be imported because I put your user name on a list of trusted LL accounts. You'll have to be patient though; the user who runs the bot prioritizes "xx-word.ogg" files over Lingua Libre files. Ultimateria (talk) 18:57, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, so I just upload the .wav Lingua Libre files on my Wiki Commons and the bot will automatically import them to the page including the word? Does it usually take several hours or several days? Filosoful (talk) 12:11, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's right. It varies...the user who runs the bot is inconsistent about adding Lingua Libre files. It could be a month or more. But if you're comfortable adding them to the Wiktionary pages yourself, that's great. Ultimateria (talk) 18:20, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, If I ever don't have the time to upload them I'll record some words and let them on my Common page. Filosoful (talk) 18:24, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
