Welcome Message[edit]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

I think you made a mistake with the etymology in this entry, it looks like you put the etymology for a different word into this entry... User: The Ice Mage talk to meh 19:13, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, little slip-up, fixed now. Thanks! Skunkassociation (talk) 19:17, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bodensee-Alemannisch[edit]

One Germanic variety that I would like to see covered is Lake Constance Alemannic. Apisite (talk) 22:13, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Quargel‎ audio[edit]

You seem to have made an audio-to-entry mismatch here as the audio file appears to be the one for "Quark". User: The Ice Mage talk to meh 17:00, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, thanks a lot! Skunkassociation (talk) 18:50, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New entries: edit summary[edit]

Hi. No need to write "new entry": you can leave it blank and it will be automatically filled with a content snippet (more useful in edit histories). Equinox 17:37, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bavarian cleanup[edit]

Hi. I moved the Bavarian-specific labels to Module:labels/data/lang/bar, where they should be, instead of in the Module:labels/data/regional, where their presence was causing all sorts of issues. I have also severely cut back the number of aliases for these labels and converted all references to the labels to use the short forms (e.g. East Central instead of East Central Bavarian; however, it automatically displays as East Central Bavarian). I also removed the Wikipedia links for things for East Central Bavarian because they led to undefined pages. Note also the correct syntax for {{alt}}/{{alter}}:

  • {{alt|bar|Båod|Boud||South Central|Styria}}

instead of using |q=, |pos= or a separate invocation of {{q}}. Benwing2 (talk) 05:15, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. My apologies for my clueless tampering and thanks a lot for fixing it. Skunkassociation (talk) 08:41, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
