  • (Teylingen) First attested as vuroholz, vuoreholt and voreholt in the first half of the 11th century. Compound of Old Dutch fora (forward, front-) and holt (rising deciduous forest).
  • (Den Haag) Attested as t'Voorhout in 1609. Compound of voor (in front of) and hout (rising deciduous forest) (referring here to the Haagse Bos forest).
