Hmong (RPA: Hmoob), also spelled Mong (RPA: Moob), and also known as Miao in China, is a group of languages. It is sometimes considered a dialect continuum, but its dozens of members are not mutually intelligible.

Hmong Daw[edit]

The Hmong Daw ("White Hmong", RPA: Hmoob Dawb) variety of Hmong uses several tones. These are represented in RPA as follows:

high -b pob (ball)
high falling -j poj (female)
mid rising -v pov (throw)
mid -∅ po (spleen)
mid low (breathy) -g pog (paternal grandmother)
low -s pos (thorn)
low falling (creaky) -m pom (see)
low rising -d (occurs in place of -m at the end of phrases)
