From Middle High German zickīn, from Old High German zickīn (kid), from Proto-Germanic *tikkīną (compare Old English tiċċen (kid)), from Proto-Indo-European *digós (goat), genitive of *díks. Cognate with obsolete English tick (a goat). More at Ziege.
