Clipping of acycloguanosine +‎ -vir. From being an antiviral (-vir) containing less cyclic structure ("a-"cyclic) than the naturally occurring analogue from which it is based, guanosine. This is analyzable as a- +‎ cyclo- +‎ -vir.
