  1. (Islam) The call to prayer, which originally consisted of simply four takbirs followed by the statement لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلله (lā ʔilāha ʔillā llāh) (أَشْهَدُ أَنْ) ((ʔašhadu ʔan)).
    If one pray alone, then no adhan is needed.
