From Proto-Celtic *ageti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eǵ-. The future stem is from Proto-Celtic *ɸiɸlāti, reduplicated future of *ɸel-, from Proto-Indo-European *pelh₂- (to drive) (compare Latin pellō).
