From àjàò (anomalure, flying squirrel) +‎ à- (nominalizing prefix) +‎ jọ (to resemble) +‎ ọ̀sọ́n (afternoon), literally The flying squirrel that resembles the bright/orangeness of the afternoon, named so because of its orange skin and belly
