From Latin aliquis (anyone, someone) ūnus. Cognate with French aucun, Spanish alguno, Italian alcuno.

Usage notes

All forms of algún contract when used following the contractions de (of, from) or en (in). So de algún contracts to dalgún, and en algunhas contracts to nalgunhas.
