Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from New Latin aphēmia, from Ancient Greek ἀ- (a-, not) + φήμη (phḗmē, voice).[1] By surface analysis, a- +‎ -phemia.

  1. A type of aphasia in which the ability to speak is lost or severely impaired.
