From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French archangele, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin archangelus, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek ἀρχάγγελος (arkhángelos) from Ancient Greek prefix ἀρχ- (arkh-) + ἄγγελος (ángelos, “messenger”). Surface analysis arch- + angel.
