Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Low German augurk, from a Slavic source (compare Polish ogórek, Lithuanian agurkas, Russian огурец (ogurec)). Possibly ultimately from Byzantine Greek ἀγγούριον (angoúrion, small cucumber).[1]
