Etymology[edit]
From Old French avoc, avuec, avoec (“with”), from an assumed Vulgar Latin *aboc, *abhoc, *apud hŏque, a Frankish alteration consisting of Latin apud (“with, near, close to”) with hoc (“this”) and -que. Cognate with French avec, Bourguignon aivouc, Picard aveuc, Champenois aiveuc, Walloon avou and Franco-Provençal avouéc.
