Catalan[edit]
Pronunciation[edit]
Verb[edit]
avio
- first-person singular present indicative form of aviar
Esperanto[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
avio (accusative singular avion, plural avioj, accusative plural aviojn)
Usage notes[edit]
The use of avio has become more common lately, but aviadilo remains a more standard word. Avio is certainly more used than the obsolete aeroplano.
Derived terms[edit]
Finnish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Probably derived from the root ava- (compare avoin (“open”), avata (“to open”)), with the suffix -io. Alternatively from or possibly influenced by Proto-Germanic *aiwǭ, *aiwaz (“law, custom”) (compare Old English ǣw, æ (“law, marriage, ceremony”) and Old High German ēwa (“law, marriage”); suggesting then the existence of Proto-Finnic *avio).
