Etymology

Alteration by association with -ary of the French axillaire (of the axilla), itself an alteration of the earlier forms aisselliere and aissellaire, both from the assumed (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin etymon *axillāris, from axilla (armpit), diminutive form of the assumed *axula.
