baglama (plural baglamas)

1. (music) A seven-stringed musical instrument in various cultures around the eastern Mediterranean, with a pear-shaped body, and strings in double or sometimes triple courses.
   • 2006, Thomas Pynchon, Against the Day, Vintage 2007, p. 945:

     At the end of the room, as if behind an iconastasis of song, oud, baglamas, and a kind of hammered dulcimer called a santouri were being played without a break.
