Italian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From battere (to beat) +‎ -ito (to nominalise the verb).

This construction is modelled on gemito and fremito, which are nouns indirectly derived from Latin verbs. Similarly, tremito was constructed this way (from tremare).[1]

Pronunciation[edit]
