beef chit (plural beef chits)

  1. (nautical, slang) The menu in a ship's wardroom.

      Give me the beef-chit, and let me see if the chef 'as got the chow right.
    • 1962, John O'London's, volume 6, page 571:
      The tombstone is another name for the beef chit, or menu, while a Bombay Duck is a bloater, a two-eyed steak a kipper, and the bags of mystery or links of love are sausages.
