From Middle French biere, from late Old French biere, borrowed from Middle Dutch bier, bēr (beer), from Old Dutch *bier, from Frankish *bior (compare Old Saxon bior, Old High German bior), all from Proto-Germanic *beuzą. Akin to Old English bēor (beer). More at beer.
