Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بر چرپیده (bir çırpıda),[1] from بر (bir) and چرپی (çırpı),[2][3] equivalent to bir (a, one, indefinite determiner) +‎ çırpı (cut clippings of a branch; a line drawn on timber with a painted string) +‎ -da (locative suffix), from çırp- (to hit, to strike) +‎ (deverbal nominal suffix).
