Etymology[edit]

A neologism created in 2021. Calque of Dutch koolstof and Calque of Japanese 炭素, with the last part changed to stone as a semantic loan from Chinese, where the element type is indicated in the radical. bugsãanɛ (charcoal) +‎ kugre (stone), literally "charcoal stone"
