From Vulgar Latin *coaglāre/ *quaglāre, from syncopation of Latin coāgulāre, present active infinitive of coāgulō. Compare French cailler, Portuguese coalhar, Spanish cuajar, Sicilian cagghiari, Sardinian cazare or cracare. See also the borrowed doublet coagulare.
