calling name (plural calling names)

  1. (communication) The name associated with the telephone number or similar identifier of a caller. (Can we add an example for this sense?)
  2. A name an animal has been trained to respond to. (Can we add an example for this sense?)
  3. A nickname. such as Bob for Robert, Hank for Henry, or Peggy for Margaret.
  4. (anthropology, linguistics) The name by which a person is normally identified in conversation.
