Etymology[edit]

From Turkish kalpak,[1] from Old Turkic, from Proto-Turkic[2] or from Middle Persian kwlʾp̄k' ‎(kulāfak, little cap; calyx), diminutive of kwlʾp̄ ‎(kulāf, cap, bonnet),[3][4] (Persian کلاهک ‎(kolâhak), diminutive of کلاه ‎(kolâh, hat)), or from common Turkic *qalpaq.[5]
