From Old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese canudo (13th century, Cantigas de Santa María), from Hispanic Late Latin *cannūtus (“canelike”), from Latin canna (“cane”)[1] Compare Portuguese canudo and Spanish canuto.

From Old Galician-Portuguese canudo, from Mozarabic قَـنُود (cannut, canut), corresponding to cano + -udo.
