capline (plural caplines)

  1. (typography) The line through the tops of capital letters of a particular typeface.
    Synonym: cap height
    Coordinate terms: baseline, waistline
    • 1998, Sandra M. Bryan, Illustrator Draftsman: Executionable practices, page 14:
      The letter t often falls short of both the capline and the line of ascent. The line of ascent is drawn above or on the capline and equals approximately one third the distance between the capline and baseline.
