From translingual Cavosteliidae (family name).

  1. Any slime mold of the family Cavosteliidae.

      Only five of these eight lineages belong to the Eumycetozoa. These are the protosporangiids, protosteliids, soliformoviids, cavosteliids, and schizoplasmodiids (Shadwick et al., 2009).

Usage notes[edit]

  • The (translingual) family name differs depending on whether one wishes to treat its members as animals (in which case the -idae suffix is used) or something else (when -aceae is used). Thus, and in reflection of the difficulty classifying the family, it is sometimes called Cavosteliaceae.
