corn dolly (plural corn dollies)

  1. A traditional figure made from straw, associated with pre-industrial harvest customs of Europe.
    Synonyms: corn mother, corn doll
    • 1971, Gwen White, Antique Toys And Their Background, page 159:
Many of these fetishes and objects of superstition are things which have ended in becoming children's playthings. Dolls of straw such as the "corn dollies" were to promote good harvests, dolls with a tooth atttached were to help with teething.
