Etymology[edit]
Ultimately from Latin crīmen; compare Romanian crimă. According to Pascu, the Aromanian may be directly inherited from Latin[1](as it developed a somewhat different or unique meaning), while the Romanian is a neologism taken from French. However, most if not all of the other Romance cognates are probably borrowings as well, making this theory more problematic.
