Etymology

Probably from Proto-Finno-Ugric *ćᴕ̈ppɜ (pinch, fingertip; to pinch).[1][2]

Alternatively, possibly from Proto-Turkic *čɨm- ("pinch"), compare Chuvash чӑбат, Turkish çimdik, çimcik. [1]
