From Proto-Albanian *draunjā, from Proto-Indo-European *drew- (tree; hard, strong, firm). Compare Latin dūrus (hard, rough), Old English trum (strong, firm), Old Armenian տրամ (tram, firm, solid), and Ancient Greek δροόν (droón, strong, mighty).
