Etymology 1

Deverbal from empregar (“to employ”). The dated meaning "cattle" probably because of an euphemism: ter un emprego na corte, meaning "to have a job at the court" or a job paid by the state, but then understood as "to have cattle in the stable", so "being a farmer" (see corte).

     Landlord. "Go to hell with your blunderbusses, emprejos and language, I can't understand a word!
     Galician. "Did you hear that? Sir, come here! I'll explain all clearly to you!"
