Etymology[edit]

Via some other European language, ultimately from Latin ethnicus (pagan, heathen), from Ancient Greek ἐθνικός (ethnikós, of or for a nation, heathen), from ἔθνος (éthnos, a company”, later “a people or nation, heathens).
