Etymology[edit]

From Latin euphorbium, from Ancient Greek εὐφόρβιον (euphórbion), from Εὔφορβος (Eúphorbos, Euphorbus, physician to the Mauretanian king Juba II) + -ιον (-ion, -ium).

The name is from Εὔφορβος (Eúphorbos, well-fed); εὖ (, well) + φορβή (phorbḗ, food, fodder).
