Pronunciation

[edit]

[edit]

From Arabic فُنْدُق (funduq), from Ancient Greek πανδοκεῖον (pandokeîon).

fondoq m (plural fniedaq)

    Synonym: lukanda

Etymology 2

Apparently influenced by etymology 1, though the reason seems obscure. Neither is there an apparent semantic relation, nor does ħ commonly alternate with f in Maltese.
