Via some other European language, ultimately a modern coinage based on (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek φῶς (phôs, “light”) (combining form φωτ- (phōt-)) and γράφω (gráphō, “to scratch, to scrape, to graze; to write”).
