From Proto-Slavic *ogurъkъ, probably via German Gurke, from Byzantine Greek ἀγγούριον ‎(angoúrion, cucumber), from ἄγουρος ‎(ágouros, green, unripe).[1] Cognate with Upper Sorbian kórka, Polish ogórek, Czech okurka, Russian огуре́ц ‎(oguréc), Serbo-Croatian ùgorak.
