From Malay gandum, from Persian گندم (gandom), from Middle Persian 𐫃𐫗𐫇𐫖 (gnwm /⁠gannum⁠/, wheat), (in book Pahlavi 𐭤𐭢 (Hg /⁠gan(d)um⁠/)), from Proto-Iranian, from possibly Semitic (compare Proto-Semitic *ḥnṭ).
