gas coal (countable and uncountable, plural gas coals)

  1. A bituminous or hydrogenous coal yielding a high proportion of volatile material, and therefore available for the manufacture of illuminating gas.

      It is a good gas-coal, and well fitted for steam purposes, and for use in reverberatory furnaces.
